Milwaukee, WI - The Iowa Wild (21-17-5-4, 51 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (22-15-6-5, 55 points) 3-1 in front of 4,191 fans at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday night. Goaltender John Curry carried a shutout into the last ten minutes of regulation and forward Erik Haula scored twice to secure the team's first victory over Milwaukee this year. Curry (6-2-2) stopped 27 shots in the win, including a penalty shot in the game's last minute. Forward Jim McKenzie also scored and defenseman Kyle Medvec added two assists, as Iowa improved to 11-6-2-3 on the road this season. Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec (9-5-3) made 27 saves in the defeat. Iowa returns home on Saturday for Pink in the Rink and a 7:05 p.m. meeting with Rockford.
Iowa opened the scoring late in the first period with Jim McKenzie's strike at 17:19. Defenseman Kyle Medvec carried the puck into the Milwaukee zone and set up McKenzie in the left-wing circle. The Iowa forward ripped a one timer past goalie Marek Mazanec. Forward Stephane Veilleux added an assist on McKenzie's third goal of the year for the 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless second period, the game opened up a little in the third period. Iowa's Erik Haula took a pass from Medvec and snapped a wrist shot past Mazanec. Haula's tenth goal of the season made it 2-0 Wild at 6:21 of the third period. Milwaukee took advantage of the power play at 9:46, ending John Curry's shutout bid. Filip Forsberg blasted a shot past Curry for his seventh goal of the season. Defenseman Bryan Rodney and forward Taylor Beck each had an assist as Milwaukee cut the deficit to 2-1. Iowa answered back off the next faceoff, with Haula taking a pass from defenseman Jonathon Blum and sneaking a shot past Mazanec for his second goal of the season. Haula's 11th goal of the season opened up a 3-1 lead at 9:58. Curry slammed the door with a key save late in the game, stopping Milwaukee's Taylor Beck with 28 seconds to go in regulation.
Iowa returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:05 p.m. to host the Rockford IceHogs. Saturday the Wild celebrates Pink in the Rink, presented by Sammons Financial. In a partnership with the Susan G. Komen of Iowa, the Wild are encouraging fans to wear pink to create awareness for breast cancer awareness. The players will wear Pink in the Rink themed jerseys for the game. Fans will have a chance to purchase the game-worn jerseys in a live postgame jersey auction. The auction benefits Susan G. Komen of Iowa. Also, the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive Pink LED light-up thundersticks. The team will conclude a weekend set with Rockford on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 4:05 p.m. The game is Superheroes Day, where superheroes and local mascots, including Cy and Herky, make an appearance. The first 2,000 fans in attendance receive an Iowa Wild superhero poster. Fans may also purchase the Subway Family Four Pack for the game, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, and Subway coupons starting at $44.
